PTE Core
PTE Core is Pearson’s newest computer-based English language test, officially approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for economic immigration and permanent residency applications. Designed to meet Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) requirements, PTE Core offers a fast, fair, and secure way to prove your English skills for living, working, and settling in Canada.
What is PTE Core?
PTE Core is a four-skills English proficiency test that evaluates your ability to listen, speak, read, and write in real-world and workplace scenarios. It is designed specifically for non-academic purposes, making it the ideal choice for individuals applying for economic immigration pathways, such as:
Express Entry (FSW, FST, CEC)
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
Canadian permanent residency (PR)
Work permits and skilled worker streams
This test is based on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) system, which is the standard used by the Canadian government to assess English proficiency.
Test Format
PTE Core is completed in just 2 hours, with all four skills tested in a single sitting at a secure Pearson test center. The test structure includes:
